Peggy

The major part of her restoration took place when the money was found to put her back into sail.

The first time she was taken out onto the Tyne to sail, her crew were cautious and hoisted the sail reefed. It was soon shaken out. It was also realised that a pulley system would be required to haul the forefoot of the main down to the gunnel and more importanly a bowprit was needed so that a jib could be set to reduce wheather helm.

Peggy’s owner was encouraged to restore her because of the satisfaction gained in sailing the Golden Gleam a few years before.
