Golden Gleam was built in 1948 by Ralph Dawson of Seahouses, Northumberland.
She is a Northumbrian coble, 29 feet long, and was originally powered by powered by a BMC car engine, adapted for marine use.
She was commissioned by a fisherman called Main Downey who lived in Boulmer.
When converted to sail, the engine was replaced by an outboard engine fixed into a special well located immediately aft of her aftmost thwart.
